Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Health & Wellbeing at Work conference in the UK. Over two days, I engaged in meaningful conversations with professionals across various industries—HR leaders, wellbeing specialists, and individuals simply seeking ways to build their own resilience.
A few key takeaways stood out to me:
✅ People genuinely care about their colleagues. Many attendees weren’t just thinking about productivity or performance (though we know these improve with better mental wellbeing). Instead, they were driven by a desire to support their peers through difficult life events—bereavement, divorce, stress. Creating a culture where we help each other thrive is a goal worth striving for.
⚠️ Change and uncertainty are stressful. I spoke with people whose organisations had undergone major restructures—teams split, colleagues let go, offices closed. These changes, along with broader economic uncertainty, serve as reminders that resilience is essential in today’s working world.
🔎 People want easy, effective solutions. Leaders are busy. They’re looking for interventions that are evidence-based and ready to implement. The key is finding the right ones—those that truly make a difference.
💡 There’s a growing curiosity about personal resilience. We offered attendees a quick self-assessment on mental resilience, and many jumped at the chance. Interestingly, most already had an intuitive sense of their resilience before seeing the results. But taking a moment to reflect helped them realise how they could strengthen it further.
Attending this conference reinforced the importance of prioritising mental resilience in the workplace. I’m grateful for the connections made and look forward to continuing these conversations, supporting organisations in creating environments where people—and businesses—can thrive.
